About the Show Ceili first aired on the last Sunday of January, 1986 with its original host Dave Stone. When Dave left after two and a half years to take a job as a forester elsewhere in the state, Roland Goodbody began his tenure as host. Over the last dozen years, Roland has expanded the focus of the show to include traditional music from his native England as well as the Celtic countries. Born in Hampshire, on the South Coast of England, Roland entered Keele University in 1970 where his nascent interest in English traditional music continued at what had until recently been the home of the premier festival of traditional music in England. He first came to the United States in 1973 on a one-year exchange program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and following graduation in England returned to take up graduate studies at the University of New Hampshire in 1976. He became a regular listener to Ceili and, reluctant to see it disappear when Dave announced his retirement, took over the reins in June 1988.
